Patch 12.1.5 Housing Prep: The Fastest Ways to Farm Old Currencies & Materials
Patch 12.1.5 is about to send Housing enthusiasts absolutely everywhere. Garrisons, Legion Class Halls, Mechagon, Shadowlands, Dragonflight, old professions and holiday events are suddenly relevant again, all because we need more furniture. š
And honestly, I love it.
One of my favourite things about Player Housing so far is the way Blizzard has managed to make huge chunks of old content feel useful again. That random currency you've had sitting on an alt since 2017, the pile of Ghost Iron you refused to delete, or the abandoned Garrison you haven't visited in ten years may suddenly have an actual purpose.
With even more Housing decor appearing on the Patch 12.1.5 PTR, I thought I'd put together a proper farming guide covering the main currencies and materials we're likely to need, along with the quickest and easiest ways to start stocking up now.

ā ļø Before We Start
All Patch 12.1.5 information in this post is based on the current PTR, so vendor costs, items, materials and requirements can still change before the patch reaches live servers.
In other words, don't bankrupt yourself buying 4,000 bars of something because I said furniture was coming. š Use this as a prep guide rather than a reason to completely empty your gold reserves.
š„ What I Would Farm First
If you're wondering where to start, I wouldn't try to farm everything at once. There are a few things that make much more sense to prioritise first, especially anything tied to a limited-time event.
Brewfest Prize TokensĀ would be at the top of my list because Brewfest is currently active and ends on October 6. After that, I'd check your existing Order ResourcesĀ across old Legion characters and your Warband before farming any more. War ResourcesĀ are also worth looking at early, particularly if you have the Mechagon recycling method available.
I'd also start collecting Garrison ResourcesĀ passively now, because there's no reason not to let your Garrison build them up while you're doing other things. Then I'd prepare for Hallow's End, which begins on October 19, and start checking old profession materials before Housing demand potentially pushes some prices upwards.
š° Garrison Resources
Warlords of Draenor
We're going back to our Garrisons in 2026, which is not a sentence I thought I'd ever be writing again. š
Several Draenor Housing vendors use Garrison Resources, so if you've completely abandoned yours, it may finally be time to head back. The good news is that this is one of the easier currencies to start building because some of it can be earned passively.

ā” Fastest Option ā Huge Ogre Cache
If you have gold to spare, the quickest option is to check the Auction House for a Huge Ogre Cache. Each one awards 1,000 Garrison Resources, so it can save a lot of time if the price is reasonable.
I would definitely check the price before buying, though. As more Housing players realise old currencies are useful again, there is always the chance that these old items suddenly become much more expensive.
š¤ Easiest Option ā Your Garrison Cache
The easiest method is simply to use the Garrison itself. Your Garrison Cache generates resources passively, which means this is one of those farms you can make progress on without actually farming.
If you have several old characters with established Garrisons, log them in, collect whatever is waiting and keep checking back. It may not be the fastest method in one sitting, but it is essentially free currency for doing almost nothing.
š² Active Farming
If you want to actively farm more, you can also pick up Garrison Resources from Draenor treasures, rare mobs, Garrison missions, Lumber Mill work orders and Trading Post activities.
The biggest thing I would suggest is checking all your old characters first. You may already have useful Garrisons set up and sitting there with resources waiting to be collected.
Garrison Resources currently aren't Warband transferable, so make sure you're putting the effort into the character that actually needs the relevant vendor unlocks.
š£ Order Resources
Legion
Order Resources are one of the first currencies I'd check before farming anything, simply because you may already have far more than you realise.
Legion has a large amount of Housing decor tied to Class Halls and other vendors, and many of those pieces require Order Resources. The nice part is that Order Resources are now Warband transferable, which makes this considerably easier than it would have been during Legion.

ā” Check Your Old Characters First
Open your Currency tab, search for Order Resources, and have a look across your old Legion characters. If you played multiple characters during Legion, there is a decent chance you've got thousands sitting around doing absolutely nothing.
Transfer them onto the character you want to use for Housing purchases before you begin farming more. For a lot of players, this could be the quickest win on the entire list.
š Best Repeatable Farm ā Legion World Quests
If you still need more, Legion World Quests are one of the simplest repeatable options. Focus specifically on quests that directly reward Order Resources rather than clearing everything on the map.
At current character power, most of the actual objectives are trivial, so the main time cost tends to be flying between them rather than completing them.
It's also worth checking any old Class Hall or Legion campaign quests you never finished, because there are some sizeable one-time Order Resource rewards buried in old progression.
Before doing anything else in Legion, though, check your former mains, alts and Legion Remix characters first. Warband transfers make it very easy to consolidate what you've already earned.
āļø War Resources
Battle for Azeroth
War Resources are one of the slightly more annoying currencies on this list, but thankfully there is a very strong farming method if you have the right Mechagon progression.

ā” Fastest Method ā Mechagon Battle Boxes
If you're Exalted with Rustbolt Resistance, Mechagon is currently one of the best places to farm War Resources.
The basic conversion works like this:
250 Spare Parts ā 1 S.P.A.R.E. Crate ā Battle Box ā 100 War Resources
Current Wowhead player testing has reported roughly 800ā1,200 War Resources in around 30 minutesĀ using this method, which is considerably better than flying around Battle for Azeroth zones doing old World Quests one at a time.
The main recycling quests involved are More Recycling!Ā and Even More Recycling!, and you can either farm the required components yourself or buy some of them from the Auction House depending on current prices.
If you don't have Rustbolt Resistance at Exalted, then I'd fall back to the traditional BfA options such as World Quests that reward War Resources, treasures, rares, old War Campaign quests and Warfront content when relevant.
If you're specifically farming for Kul Tiran or Zandalari Housing pieces, it's also worth farming on the faction that actually needs the currency where possible, as cross-faction conversions can create unnecessary losses.
š Reservoir Anima
Shadowlands
I know. I'm sorry.
Housing has somehow managed to achieve what very little else could and made us willingly return to Shadowlands for furniture. š
The good news is that Reservoir Anima is not especially difficult to farm now because our characters are massively overpowered compared to the original content.

ā” Best Method ā Anima World Quests
The simplest way to farm Anima is to open the Shadowlands map and target World Quests that directly reward it. At modern character power, most objectives can be cleared extremely quickly.
I wouldn't only do the World Quest itself, though. While you're moving between objectives, kill nearby rares, open treasures, collect Anima containers and complete any useful Covenant activities in the area.
This is much more efficient than sitting in one location waiting on respawns. Think of it as hoovering up everything useful while you're travelling around the zone.
Before beginning a proper farm, check your Covenant Reservoir and old Shadowlands characters as well. You may already have a surprisingly large stockpile sitting there from content you completed years ago.
š Dragon Isles Supplies
Dragonflight
Dragon Isles Supplies are another currency appearing in Housing purchases, but thankfully they're one of the more relaxed farms on this list.

ā” Best General Farm ā World Quests and Treasures
The easiest starting point is to open your Dragon Isles map and target World Quests offering Supplies as a reward. Most Dragonflight content is very quick at current power levels, so this is a good farm to combine with other activities.
If you've progressed the Dragonscale Expedition, treasure farming becomes even more useful. Expedition Scout's PacksĀ unlock at Renown 2, Disturbed DirtĀ at Renown 5 and Magic-Bound ChestsĀ at Renown 16.
If you're collecting Disturbed Dirt, keep Small Expedition ShovelsĀ in your bags so you don't end up flying past useful treasure because you've forgotten them.
Zaralek Cavern is also worth checking because there are plenty of treasure containers and activities down there that can provide Dragon Isles Supplies.
The best way to approach this is as a continuous circuit: complete a World Quest, pick up nearby treasures, kill any convenient rares, and keep moving rather than waiting around in one place.
šŖ Undercoin
Delves
If you've been doing Delves regularly, you may already have a decent amount of Undercoin available before you even start farming.
Undercoin is still being used by Delve vendors for Housing decor, so it's another currency worth checking before you commit to a long farming session.

ā” Fastest Method ā Quick Delve Clears
If your only goal is currency, I wouldn't turn every Delve into a personal progression challenge. Pick Delves that you can clear quickly and comfortably and focus on efficiency.
Currency per hour matters more than difficulty here. There is no point making a run take twice as long just to prove something to Brann. š
Also check any Delve-related rewards, conversions or currencies you already have before starting. You may be able to pick up additional Undercoin without needing to grind as much as you initially thought.
šŗ Brewfest Prize Tokens
LIMITED TIME ā DO THIS NOW
This is the one I'd prioritise immediately.
Brewfest is currently active and ends on October 6, 2026, which means there is a limited window to stock up on Brewfest Prize Tokens for Housing decor.
Unlike the permanent currencies on this list, you can't simply decide to farm these next week once the event has ended.

ā” Start With the One-Time Activities
Wowhead currently lists roughly 400 Brewfest Prize TokensĀ from the annual one-time activities, so I'd complete those before endlessly repeating dailies.
Those activities include the Brewfest Banquet content, Chug and Chuck!, Pink Elekks on Parade, Brewfest Chowdown, There and Back Again, Direbrew's Dire Brew and the Bar Tab Barrels.
Once you've cleared those, you can add the repeatable and daily sources such as the Keg-Shaped Treasure Chest, Ram Racing, Barking, Brewfest invasions, Barreling Down and Bubbling Brews.
And yes, somehow we've reached the point where Ram Racing is relevant again. Happy Brewfest. š
Brewfest Prize Tokens are also Warbound, so if you're short, make use of your alts and transfer the tokens through your Warbank. Suddenly all those characters you haven't logged in months have jobs.
If you're deciding between Brewfest and another farm right now, do Brewfest first. The other currencies will still be available after October 6.
š Tricky Treats
Hallow's End
Once Brewfest finishes, we don't have long before the next seasonal Housing farm begins.
Hallow's End runs from October 19 to November 2, 2026, which means Tricky Treats are worth putting on your farming list now so you're ready when the event starts.

ā” Fastest Bulk Farm ā Candy Buckets
Candy Buckets are still one of the quickest ways to gather large amounts of Tricky Treats. Travel between inns, collect the Handful of Treats, and work through the available locations by continent.
I wouldn't try to do this from memory. Use TomTom, a Candy Bucket tracking addon or a proper route so you're not flying around wondering whether you've already visited an inn.
Then supplement your Candy Bucket route with the Headless Horseman, daily quests, seasonal activities and any one-time event quests.
The best approach is to get your big Candy Bucket run completed early in the event. Then everything else you earn afterwards feels like bonus currency rather than a desperate last-night panic around Azeroth.
šØ Old Profession Materials
The Potential Goldmine
This is probably the part of Patch 12.1.5 I'm watching most closely.
Housing is giving old profession materials an actual use again, which means reagents that have been sitting at very low prices for years could suddenly become much more desirable.
We're talking materials from almost every era of WoW.
Useful materials include Thorium, Truesilver, Arcanite, Black Lotus, Mooncloth, Golden Pearls and Dense Stone.
Burning Crusade
Keep an eye on Fel Iron, Adamantite, Khorium, Primal materials and Knothide Leather.
Wrath of the Lich King
Cobalt, Titanium, Dragon's Eyes, Snowfall Ink and Spellweave are some of the materials worth checking.
Cataclysm
Obsidium, Elementium, Savage Leather, Volatile materials, Blackfallow Ink and Inferno Ink all fall into the sort of old reagents Housing can suddenly make interesting again.
Mists of Pandaria
Ghost Iron, Trillium, Spirit of Harmony, Windwool Cloth and Ethereal Shards are all worth checking before you sell or delete anything.
Warlords of Draenor
Blackrock Ore, Sumptuous Fur, Sorcerous materials, Cerulean Pigment and Temporal Crystals are worth keeping an eye on.
Legion
Demonsteel, Leylight Shards, Blood of Sargeras, Imbued Silkweave and Starlight Ink are among the useful Legion-era materials.
Battle for Azeroth
Monelite, Storm Silver, Coarse Leather and Crimson Ink may all become more useful depending on the final Housing recipes.
Shadowlands
Laestrite, Solenium, Lightless Silk, Soul Dust and the various Shadowlands inks are also worth checking.
Dragonflight
Khaz'gorite, Awakened Order, Serevite and Runed Writhebark are among the Dragonflight reagents appearing in old and new Housing crafting requirements.
ā” Fastest Method ā Auction House
If you value time more than gold, the fastest solution is simply to buy what you need.
I would, however, start checking prices before Patch 12.1.5 launches. If Housing demand increases sharply, some old materials could jump considerably in value once more people realise they're required.
š° Cheapest Method ā Farm by Expansion
If you'd rather farm materials yourself, I wouldn't chase one individual reagent unless it is particularly expensive. Instead, choose an expansion and farm several useful materials at the same time.
For example, a Cataclysm farming session could target Obsidium, Elementium and Volatiles. A Pandaria session could focus on Ghost Iron, Trillium and Spirit of Harmony, while a Draenor evening could combine Blackrock Ore, Sumptuous Fur and Sorcerous materials.
This makes the farming feel much less repetitive and means you're stocking materials for several Housing recipes at once.
It's also worth remembering that the WoD Trading Post can turn Garrison Resources into Draenor profession materials, so your passive Garrison income can contribute towards crafting as well.
We've genuinely gone full circle.
š¦ CHECK YOUR BANKS BEFORE FARMING ANYTHING
Before you start any of these farms, go through your Personal Bank, Reagent Bank, Warband Bank, Guild Bank and old characters.
If you're anything like me, there is probably enough random crafting material spread across your account to furnish a small village.

Suggested caption: āI KNEW I'D NEED IT ONE DAY.ā š
That random stack of Ghost Iron you've kept since Siege of Orgrimmar may finally have a purpose.
See? You weren't hoarding. You were preparing for Housing. Obviously. š
š” My Patch 12.1.5 Prep Order
If I were starting from scratch today, I'd begin with Brewfest Prize TokensĀ because they're time-limited. After that, I'd check every currency already sitting on my account, especially Order Resources, Reservoir Anima, Dragon Isles Supplies, War Resources and Undercoin.
Next, I'd log all my old Garrisons and start collecting passive Garrison Resources, then look at the Mechagon route for War Resources if I had Rustbolt Exalted. Once the currencies were under control, I'd go through my profession materials, compare what I already have with Auction House prices and only farm whatever is genuinely worth my time.
Finally, I'd get ready for Hallow's End on October 19 and then fill in whatever currencies or materials I'm still missing once I know which decor pieces I actually want.

š” Housing Has Made the Whole World Relevant Again
This is genuinely one of my favourite things about the entire Housing system.
We're going back to Garrisons, Class Halls, Mechagon, Covenants, the Dragon Isles, old professions, seasonal events and characters we've probably forgotten even exist. Suddenly, all of it has a purpose again.
And the best part is that we're not doing it because there's player power attached or because we need another item level.
We're doing it because there's a chair we want. š
And honestly, that is exactly the kind of endgame content I am here for.
I'll keep updating our Housing guides as more Patch 12.1.5 decor, vendors and farming methods are confirmed. For now, though, go and check your banks, because somewhere on an abandoned alt is probably the exact thing you're about to spend three hours farming.
